Gridlock 2010 is a standard screen saver for Windows 7/Vista which models traffic behaviour
through a wide assortment of motorway, road junction and train networks in twenty different
topologies, two layouts modelling non-UK driving. In addition to variable traffic conditions,
Gridlock features include 24hr cycling, night driving, speed limits, roadworks and safety
cameras; rivers and boats also appear on a number of layouts. Train layout features include
points, signals, stations, termini and single line operation. Gridlock runs with a random
selection of layouts and features by default, but is also fully configurable if desired.
The release version of Gridlock 2010 contains the following key enhancements:
New layouts: Radial Roads – target shaped layout, Clahm Junction – busy railway junction,
Bunching Cars – no junctions at all, cars jam themselves up together with a Huge Car Park
(with just too many cars), also replaced Diamond Max layout.
Additional features: Railway drawing revamped showing individual tracks and a variety of
roof colours, layouts now pre-populated to save waiting for vehicles to fill the thoroughfares,
speed cameras which flash offending vehicles at roadside both with marked cameras (yellow
boxes) and on motorway variable speed limits. Mini-help overhauled, installation files
further compressed.
Better control over rush hour timings for morning and evening peaks, introduced granular
control over random settings and more of them, added configurable random layout background
colours. Internal code rewrites and revision of Windows registry usage to improve performance
and flexibility.
Other changes: improvements to existing layouts (e.g. more entry points on Branch Lines),
new configuration options for layout properties, updated export/import function, splash screen
added.
Enhanced range of driving styles including speeders and traffic light crashers. Various fixes
and enhancements including to disabled pelicans and control over variable speed limits.
Update 1 of Gridlock 2010 contains the following enhancements:
Updated some of the layouts, improved selection of random layouts and random cycling,
enhanced parking, snowy weather and other fixes, further optimised saver for Windows 7.
Typical screenshots of Gridlock 2010 are shown below although justice is not done
to the quality of the graphics on the real saver in these shots of Bunching Cars, Huge
Car Park, Clahm Junction, Radial Roads, City Bridges and Classic at night layouts.
